Stain or paint concrete?

I want to lighten the color of our dark tinted concrete counter. The sealant is almost all peeled off and we will completely remove it then adjust the color and use HTP sealer. I’m just curious if anyone has used paint and/or stain for this purpose and what ya’lol recommend.
